Wool – Masland, Fabrica, Nature’s
Carpet
Wool is manufactured into yarn through the woolen
or worsted processing system. It is then manufactured into knitted and woven
wool textiles that are then used to produce clothing, upholstery, etc. Woolen
yarn is used to create thick, heavyweight woven or knitted garments, which are
popular during colder weather. The manufacturing process of wool starts with
blending which combines wool from various bales to make sure the yarn is even and
uniform. Then it is scoured which is the process that removes the bulk of
contaminants like dirt, skin pieces, etc. This process involves washing the
wool, rinsing the fibers, and then drying the wool. The wool then goes through
carding which is where the wool fibers are separated, then the fiber is spun
during the spinning process. The wool is then dyed either at the fiber, yarn,
fabric, or garment stage.
Carpet Tile – EF Contract, Mannington,
Patcraft
The construction process for carpet tile involves
various key steps that include preparation, planning, installation, and
finishing. During the preparation, the subfloor is cleaned, dried, leveled, and
any necessary repairs are made before installation. Then, the layout pattern is
determined as well as the required measurements for the design. It is important
to allow the carpet tiles to acclimate in the space they are being installed in
for 1-2 days so that no shrinkage or expansion occurs. Next, the tiles are
installed based on the type of tile and backing, starting in the center of the
room and following the chosen pattern. It is critical that the tiles fit snug
together and edges are trimmed for a clean finish. After, a roller is used to
ensure tiles stick well and eliminate any potential air pockets. Once this is
completed, transitions and additional edges are finished to walls or other
types of flooring and the area is vacuumed so no debris is left behind.
